Umstead State Park
Umstead State Park is a family-friendly, beautiful place to visit if you live in Raleigh NC or the surrounding areas. Umstead offers many different activities for people of all ages and interests. There are hiking trails that will take you through scenic views and past picturesque waterfalls! Umstead also has an equestrian center where horseback riding lessons are taught by experienced instructors. Umstead is a great place to spend your weekend with family or friends!
There are many serene outdoor experiences to be had at Umstead State Park, a place with extensive hiking and multi-use trails where trailheads are found on both sides of the park accessible from Interstate 40 and US 70. Surrounding three manmade lakes-which hikers, trail runners, bicyclists, and equestrians all cherish the expansive park. Umstead State Park is one of the largest, and most family-friendly, in North Carolina. Big Lake provides rowboat rentals as well as fishing along connecting tributaries.
There are five picnic pavilions throughout the park, each with a fireplace that can be reserved. As a nonprofit and organization, we provide both primitive group campsites and two group camps with cabins, mess halls, and washhouses. The Maple Hill Lodge and Campground offer lodging for overnight group gatherings as well as family-friendly accommodations.
